Heritage & Connection
In Ethiopia, hospitality is not merely a courtesy—it is a sacred art. The word “Arhibu” (አርሂቡ) is a deep, warm invitation of welcome. It is spoken as you step into a home, and it is instantly felt as the comforting aroma of slow-roasting coffee beans begins to mingle with the thick, curling white smoke of burning incense.
For the diaspora living thousands of miles away, those Sundays back home feel like a lifetime ago. You miss the sound of the Jebena bubbling on the stove. You miss the chatter of neighbors sliding in unannounced. But most of all, you miss that specific, heartwarming fragrance of home that binds those memories together.
We founded Arhibu because we grew tired of the dry, dusty, chemical-filled incense sold in international markets. We wanted the real thing—the rich, resinous highland tears hand-sorted by farmers who have guarded these sacred trees for generations.
Traditional Ethiopian incense gums are pure resin, meaning they do not contain wooden sticks or self-burning coal. To burn them, place a small incense charcoal tablet in a heat-safe burner (like a clay Girgira), light the charcoal, wait 1-2 minutes until it becomes gray and covered in ash, then place 1 or 2 small pieces of Arhibu resin directly on top. It will begin releasing elegant, fragrant white smoke instantly.
We source 100% of our resins directly from sustainable, family-owned farming cooperatives in the rocky highland forests of northern and southern Ethiopia. By purchasing directly, we ensure fair compensation for the traditional harvesters and guarantee the freshest, cleanest harvest for you.
Standard commercial incense is often made from wooden sawdust dipped in synthetic fragrance oils, which can cause headaches and irritate the throat. Arhibu is 100% pure, natural, raw resin tears tapped straight from Boswellia (Frankincense) and Commiphora (Myrrh) trees. No chemicals, no fillers, no artificial perfumes—just pure, ancient nature.
Absolutely! While it is deeply connected to the Ethiopian coffee ceremony (Buna), our premium gums are perfect for daily meditation, yoga, cleansing home energies, focus during work, or simply infusing your space with a deeply calming, comforting, organic aroma.
